Nita began her college studies at the University of Santo Tomas in 1939, but this was interrupted in 1942 by the closure of schools due to World War II. School resumed in 1945 and she completed her studies in 1946.

She graduated with a degree of Bachelor of Arts in July 1946,
Summa cum laude and a Bachelor's of Literature in Journalism (Litt.B)
in November 1946, Magna cum laude.
