The Varsitarian 1945 - 1946
When Nita returned to complete her studies at the University of Santo Tomas after World War II had ended, she became a staffer of the university newspaper, the Varsitarian.
She wrote on faculty, alumni, random observations, and submitted short stories. As it would be in her later writing life, she often used pen names.
In 1946, under the pen name Teresita Herrera, she wrote a story, "And on the Seventh Day", which was named one of the best stories of the year. I don't know how the list is ranked but first on the list is a story by Eugenia Duran, a good friend of mom, and better know as Eggie Apostol to the People Power generation. Next in line is mom's story, and third is Teddy Benigno's. The article on the best stories of the year is written by FSJ -
Frankie Sionil Jose.
